Since my first trip to the South of France about 6 or 7 years ago, I aspired to see Carcassonne and finally made it there in January of 2009.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cité de Carcassonne is a fortified town with  a history spanning over 2000 years. The double city walls stretch over 2 miles around a maze of medieval streets and buildings. Over 50 towers rise from the fortifications to overlook Aude River and the surrounding lush countryside.

The extensive restoration work in the 19th century, saved this fairy tale medieval fortress from falling into ruins and possible demolition.

And what a gift to the world this was…

I remember a perfectly foggy night at Carcassonne. As I was strolling on the old stone paved streets- the only reminder I had of the modern time was my own clothing.

Enjoy and have the “Bestest Day”!
