The Homewood Duck

April 20, 2010

My husband’s colleagues from Europe were here last week and were staying at the Hitlon Homewood Suites in Edgewater, NJ.  One early morning, as Soheil (my hubby) was picking them up, he notices a duck walking about.  The animal loving person my husband is; he starts a little conversation with the duck while waiting for his colleagues.

The duck totally ignores him but does not leave. As Soheil puts down his water bottle on a large planter by the entrance to answer a text message; the duck suddenly rushes over and parks herself on the planter. And that’s when Soheil notices three eggs resting safely under the evergreen bush in the planter.

The next morning my husband checks up on the eggs and voila: another one is laid.

What makes this story more interesting is the fact that Hilotn Homewood Suites logo is a Sitting Duck.

The Irony

Now, did Hilton people hire the duck to make their planter her home? I don’t think so. Nonetheless, it is a very interesting coincidence; don’t you think so?

Isn’t it amazing how mothers always find a way to care for their young- even at a crowded and noisy place as a hotel’s entrance.
