We celebrated Mother’s Day at my house today. My two little sisters and my mother-in-law were the guests of honor.

We had planned to eat in the backyard; but the wind and cool temperature did not provide the best medium for that. A handful of us still braved it, though.

I wanted to have an easy and healthy menu. We had chicken and beef kabobs served with whole wheat lavash bread, beans, salad and yogurt. One of my brother-in-laws, Delavar, helped with grilling, my husband entertained the kids and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves one way or another.

Of course, there were presents: I gave a silk scarf to my truly lovely mother-in-law and as usual she was super-appreciative. I had knitted/crocheted a necklace and accompanying pouch for each one of my sisters. They looked good on them.

I genuinely admire and love these three mothers and to have them over and celebrate them was a privilege. Growing up,  I had never pictured my little sisters becoming mothers. We are very close in age and I remember them pretend play with and “mother” their dolls and I remember myself making fun of them. But little girls do grow up and have children of their own. I know my mother would be proud of her all grown-up girls/mothers. I guess, in a sense,  we (most of us at least) dream to be “moms” long before we are “moms” for real.

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms out there…

Thank you Halleh for a lovely day yesterday and my beautiful neckless. (I am wearing it today)You are the Bestest older sister. Thanks for all the support and love you have given me and my girls through the years. I can imagine how lonely my life would have been without you and Parisa as my sisters. I am honored to be your little sister.
