Budapest> Day 1

September 24, 2010

It is half past 3 and we just sat for a quick lunch.
We have been enjoying the sunny and balmy weather while walking the beautiful streets of Budapest since 9:30 this morning. We did have a short coffee stop at Alexander book shop’s cafe; surrounded with gilded mirrors and hand painted gold leafed fresco ceiling and walls.
We walked around a bit yesterday afternoon on our own. But we decided to hire a guide for this morning and really lucked out. Mariana helped us understand her city and filled every minute we spent with her extremely valuable. Among other sites, we visited the Jewish district, Opera House, Hero’s Square, a thermal bath, Water Castle and the Castle district. Beside Line 11(our legs), we used the immaculate Underground and city bus to get around.
We are planning to spend a bit more time on our own in the Castle District this afternoon and go to the Market Hall, liberty Statue/Park and a museum or two tomorrow. Have a great weekend!
A few pictures of Budapest (excuse the limitations of my cell camera):
