Our final afternoon in Budapest was spent on having a great lunch which was well digested via a long walk to the Museum of Fine Arts and a shorter walk/underground ride combo for a coffee break at the overly gilded New York Cafe. The entire place from walls to columns and the high ceiling are covered in fresco and gold leaf. I don’t think you could find a single non-gilded square inch. The strudel was OK and coffee lukewarm (not happiness). I think everyone goes there to marvel at the paintings and architecture.
The dinner at Dio, just across the park from our hotel, was a treat and the Hungarian red wine waiter suggested, just divine. I fell in love with a pair of magnificent Murano chandeliers hanging in the dining room.
We woke up to rain and the not so great news of our flight cancellation to Dusseldorf. Not a huge set back though. We booked the 11:00 Frankfurt flight instead, changed our car reservation and are now driving North to Minden, under mostly sunny sky. We had a quick but satisfying lunch (bratwurstK -of course- and salad) at the rest stop.
Now, I will be doing some last minute planning to visit a little town I have had my eyes on for a while; as my husband tends to his business for next couple of days.
I might be writing from Briar Rose’s Kingdom tomorrow.
Have a great Sunday….
