The Iranian -or as it is often called- the Persian New Year called Norooz (Nowrooz) has been celebrated for over 3,000 years. Since the Achaemenid era, the official year has begun with the New Day when the Sun leaves the zodiac of Pisces and enters the zodiacal sign of Aries, signifying the Spring Equinox.
The many rituals of Norooz all share the same philosophy: forget about the past year and face the new one with good thoughts, good words and good deeds, wish others the same and purify you heart and home by getting rid of all that is bad and evil.
