Hot off the press, 60 Quick Baby Knits features knitted patterns for newborns and babies up to 24 months old.

There are booties, hats, blankets, cardigans … all pretty and cute. However, there is one very special design… one of mine.

Pattern #9 titled “Bolero Jacket” is one of my earlier designs created way back when I was deciphering English knitting terms. The idea for this design came from a sudden urge to pick up my long forgotten knitting needles. Neda, my cute niece, was turning one and I knitted this bolero with its matching dress as a birthday gift for her. The set is still alive and well and is being saved by my sister for god knows what or when… perhaps as an antique offering to Neda’s daughter when we are all old, crooked and toothless!

Here are photos of the original set:

Determination gets us everywhere! Originally, I had crocheted a scalloped edge around the neckline and armholes. Determined to come up with a similar knitted finish for the book, I tried different finishing techniques and patterns and did not like any of them. Playing with a set of needles and some yarn gave birth to  an easy and versatile picot edging that can be custom made to any yarn/project. I call it the “Last Minute Scalloped Edging” as it was truly a last minute solution.
